Troubleshooting Your Stiltz Homelift
Your Stiltz Homelift is designed to be reliable and simple to use. If something doesn’t seem quite right, the questions below can help you identify what’s happening and get your lift back to normal operation.
Most of the time, the solution is quick and easy.
Why isn’t my lift moving when I press the button?
If your lift isn’t responding, start by checking a few simple things:

-
Make sure the key switch on your control panel is turned to the “I” (on) position. If the key can be removed, it’s in the off position — just reinsert and turn it on.
-
Check that the red emergency stop button hasn’t been pressed in. If it has, turn it gently clockwise to release it — you’ll feel it pop back out.
-
Confirm that the home’s power is on and the circuit breaker labeled “Stiltz” is in the on position.

If power was temporarily lost, wait about 30 seconds after restoring it to allow the lift’s system to reboot fully.
My lift still moves, but the door won’t open. What should I do?
This usually means the lift stopped just short of its parking position — a common, easy fix. Simply move the lift 1–2 feet in the opposite direction, then return to your intended floor and let it come to a complete stop on its own.
Once it reaches its correct position, the door will unlock automatically after a short pause.
How long should I wait before the door unlocks after the lift stops?
When your lift reaches a floor, it may pause briefly — usually 1–3 seconds — before the door unlocks. This short delay is part of the built-in safety system that ensures everything is fully settled before the door opens.
The lift stopped partway between floors. What can I try?
In most cases, this happens due to a quick power interruption or an obstruction in the travel path.
Here’s what you can do:
-
Check that the breaker is on and power to the home hasn’t been interrupted.
-
Inspect the top and bottom of the lift path to make sure nothing is in the way.
-
Once clear, try pressing and holding the button again to move the lift to a floor.
If the lift doesn’t respond after these checks, simply turn the breaker off, wait 60 seconds, and turn it back on to allow a full system reset.
I hear a beeping sound when I close the door. What does that mean?
A beeping sound often means the emergency stop button has been pressed or the key switch is off. Twist the red button clockwise to reset it, and make sure the key is turned to the “I” position. Once both are set correctly, the beeping will stop and your lift should operate normally.
Do I need to leave the key in the lift?
Yes — the key should remain in the “I” (on) position at all times. If it’s removed, the lift will not operate.
Leaving it in ensures that you, your family, or caregivers can use the lift whenever it’s needed.
My lift stopped working after a storm or power outage — is that normal?
Yes, that can happen. When power is interrupted, the lift may need a quick reset. Just switch the Stiltz breaker off for 60 seconds, turn it back on, and allow about 30 seconds for the system to restart.
After that, your lift should be ready to use again.
What should I do if I’ve tried everything and it’s still not working?
If your lift doesn’t respond after going through these simple checks, don’t worry — help is just a phone call away.
Our team is here to support you and will walk you through the next steps or schedule a technician if needed.
EMS / First-Responder Instructions
Use this checklist to safely assist an occupant inside a Stiltz Homelift that is stuck or not responding. Follow each step in order before attempting door removal or manual access.
Cycle Power to the Lift
-
Locate the home’s main electrical panel.
-
Find the breaker labeled “Stiltz”.
-
Flip the breaker off, wait 60 seconds, then turn it back on.
-
Allow about 30 seconds for the lift to fully reboot.
-
Confirm the lift’s key switch is turned to the “I” (on) position.
-
If the key can be removed, it’s in the “O” (off) position and the lift won’t operate.
Once power is restored and the key is on, test lift movement.
→ If still unresponsive, continue to Step 2.
Check the Red Emergency Stop Button
-
Open the lift door and locate the red emergency stop button on the control panel.
-
If the button has been pressed, a beeping sound may be heard while the door is closed.
-
To reset, twist the red button clockwise about one-quarter turn.
-
The button should pop back out once released.
Attempt to operate the lift again.
→ If no response, continue to Step 3.
Confirm the Key is in the “On” Position
-
Ensure the lift key is turned to “I” (on) — the pointer should align with the “I” icon on the panel.
-
If the key can be removed, it’s in the “O” (off) position; re-insert and turn to “I.”
-
Leave the key inserted and turned on at all times.
Verify the Lift Has Fully Parked
-
In some cases, the lift will move normally but the door will not open because it has not stopped in the exact parking position.
-
Move the lift 1–2 feet in the opposite direction, then return to the intended floor.
-
Allow the lift to come to a complete stop on its own — do not release the button early.
-
When the cab fully reaches its stopping point, the door should unlock automatically.
Check for Obstructions
-
Inspect above the lift (lid area) and below the cab for any objects or debris.
-
Remove any items that could interfere with travel.
-
Confirm the lift path is completely clear before re-testing movement.
Wait for Safety Pause Before Door Release
-
After the lift stops, wait 1–3 seconds for the built-in safety pause before opening the door.
-
This brief delay is normal and ensures the mechanical locks have fully disengaged.
Final Step – If the Lift Remains Inoperable
If all previous steps have been completed and the lift still does not respond or the door cannot be opened, the next step is to gain manual access. Retrieve the door key from the keyring inside the lift car (or near the main control location). Insert the key into the door lock and unlock the door. Once unlocked, lift the door upward and off its hinges to remove it from the frame.
After the occupant has exited safely, turn off power to the lift at the breaker, and contact Stiltz of South Florida to report the incident and schedule a technician inspection before the lift is returned to use. (954) 990-5480
